Freeman Methodist Church, Kwesimintsim, has its roots in the missionary work of Thomas Birch Freeman, a British Methodist missionary who arrived in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1838. Freeman’s mission was to spread Christianity and establish Methodist churches in the region.

The church in Mankessim, which is closely related to the Freeman Methodist Church, Kwesimintsim, was established in 1838.³ Freeman visited the Enyan Abasa congregation on November 26, 1838, and the church had 21 adult members by December 1843.

The Methodist church in the area grew rapidly, with the establishment of new churches and circuits. Today, the Freeman Methodist Church, Kwesimintsim, is a thriving community of Christians who continue to spread the message of God’s love and redemption.

It’s worth noting that Thomas Birch Freeman’s legacy extends beyond the establishment of churches. He played a significant role in promoting education, social justice, and community development in the region.
